Japan’s own dance music unit, Kamakura ENV. Good for dancing, listening, and for spiritual cleansing. Their music is defined by a lingering refrain and repeating melody which together weave an original and fascinating story. Kamakura EVN’s first single “Paillette/ Non Reserved” was released by Silicone Soul’s tech house label Darkroom Dubs in July 2008 to receive reviews by artists such as Laurent Garnier, Satoshi Tomiie and Funk D’ Void. Darkroom Dubs is the sister label of Scotland’s SOMA Records, a prestigious techno label known for artists such as Funk D’ Void and Slam. Furthermore, in August 2008, the unit is scheduled to release work from progressive house label, Morphosis Records.
Kamakura ENV is the Japanese duo of Tokunaga, a long time contributor to the Japanese club scene and YU-TA Nakamura aka, Branju, an active organizer and track maker.
After spending his high school days in Switzerland, Tokunaga moved to the U.K. in 1994 and got his first taste of the dance music scene. Greatly influenced by artists such as Josh Wink and Richie Hawtin, Tokunaga returned to Japan in 1999 and started DJ-ing in a quest to spread UK’s latest dance music in Japan. From there on, Tokunaga invited the world’s top class DJ’s such as DJ Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren to Japan while also establishing his own DJ play, and taking Japan’s club scene to new heights. Tokunaga has also swept away clubbers around the globe in places like Space and Privilege, located on Spain’s infamous Ibiza, also known as the Mecca of music.
YU-TA Nakamura, aka Branju has organized countless parties in Tokyo’s club scene since the young age of 21. 1998-99, Branju organized Japan’s largest dance parade, “Rainbow Parade” and parties such as “Vit” and “VANG” at Aoyama’s legendary techno club, Maniac Love. As a DJ, he has played at a number of lounges including the famous Roppongi Hills. YU-TA started creating music seriously in 2004 with the help of his talents on the piano, which he has been playing since five. Today, he creates music for a variety of clients including store/ corporate websites and BGM for movies .
The artists have a friendship spanning over 10 years and reunited in 2007 to start creating music together.
Tokunaga once took the world under his wings and his distinguished musical talent combined with the delicate but melodious tunes and natural talent of Branju together create the magical world of Kamakura ENV.
